AMP LAUNCHES NEW COMEDY SERIES IN PARTNERSHIP WITH COMEDY ZONE

AMP announces first five comedy events in AMP Comedy Night series; tickets on sale August 5

NORTH BETHESDA, MD –AMP, powered by Strathmore launches the new standup series,

AMP Comedy Night, in partnership with industry laugh-leader Comedy Zone in September 2016.

The series will bring the best, road-tested touring comics to AMP, providing a stage and filling the void

for regularly-scheduled, high quality comedy in Montgomery County. The series kicks off on Thursday,

September 29, 2016 at 8 p.m. with Darren “DS” Sanders and Melissa Douty. Tickets for AMP

Comedy Night events go on sale Friday, August 5, 2016 at 10 a.m. Comedy nights will be scheduled

the first and third Thursdays of each month; each show will feature two comedians, with tickets ranging

from $15-$25. For more information and to purchase tickets, visit www.AMPbyStrathmore.com.

“Comedy has become such a robust field, with a groundswell of options in D.C., but nothing this

side of the Beltway. We experimented with comedy in our first year and it was a tremendous

success—there’s clearly an audience in Montgomery County for it,” said Joi Brown, Vice President of

Programming at Strathmore. “We just needed to find a partner that could consistently deliver the high

level acts we want to present— someone who really understand the world of stand-up comedy.”

In looking for a partner, AMP sought industry-leader Comedy Zone. Founded in Charlotte, NC,

Comedy Zone is celebrating 30 years in business and now operates more than 60 venues across the

country. Founder Brian Hefron is on the pulse of what’s hot in standup.

“Just because you’ve been in a movie or television show doesn’t mean you’re more talented, it

just means that your career has taken a different turn. We’re not bringing up-and- comers to AMP—these

are some of the best, most sought after comedians in the country,” said Hefron. “We’re putting our name on it.”

Upcoming AMP Comedy Nights, presented in partnership with Comedy Zone, include:

Rickey Smiley, and travels regularly with the Queen of Comedy, Sommore. Melissa Douty competed

Few things other than cats and food videos can rack up more than 10 million views on

& Tom Show” and “The Adam Carolla Show,” as well as The Nerdist Network. Crist has shared the mic

with Dave Chappelle, Seth Meyers, Tim Hawkins, Anjelah Johnson, and more. The son of a pastor,

middle child, and homeschooler, Crist’s comedy is imaginative and clean, mining anecdotes of life

growing up in the south. The good ol’ southern boy is paired with “Bad Girl Next Door” Blayr Nias,

whose humor blends Northern aggression and Southern charm. Nias has opened for Rachel Feinstein and

Jim Norton, and is the creator of The Almost Famous Comedy Show at The Charlotte Comedy Zone,

providing a platform for rising comedic talent.

Dave Attell, and John Witherspoon (“Friday”), and has written jokes for comedians including Victoria

Jackson (“Saturday Night Live”). He was the audience warmup comedian for ABC’s “Extreme

Makeover”, and in 2013, was selected to compete in Comedy Central’s “Up Next” talent search.

Mike Armstrong

and Ryan Van Genderen

Thursday, November 17, 2016

Show” and “CBS This Morning” to “Good Morning America.” Armstrong is also a regular guest and

writer for NPR and radio’s “Bob & Sherri.” Ryan Van Genderon’s playfully dark and sardonic

observations of the human condition and societal norms has landed him on stage with comedy’s brass,

including Nikki Glaser, Neal Brennan (“Chapelle’s Show”), Jaime Kennedy, Mike Birbiglia, Charlie

Murphy, Margaret Cho, Aries Spears, Natasha Leggero, and Jon Lovitz.

Shaun Jones and Brent Blakeney

talents played well on TV, and he made the leap to the big screen in “Shade,” appearing with Jamie Foxx

and Sylvester Stallone. Brent Blakeney has worked with stars such as Bobby Lee (“Mad TV”) and Tom

Green (“The Tom Green Show”), as well as legendary comedians Don “DC” Curry, Bill Burr, Josh Blue,

nonetheless. Blakeney’s well-paced comedic style earned him a gig as a regular opener for Jon Reep.
