“Comedy has become such a robust field, with a groundswell of options in D.C., but nothing this

side of the Beltway. We experimented with comedy in our first year and it was a tremendous

success—there’s clearly an audience in Montgomery County for it,” said Joi Brown, Vice President of

Programming at Strathmore. “We just needed to find a partner that could consistently deliver the high

level acts we want to present— someone who really understand the world of stand-up comedy.”

In looking for a partner, AMP sought industry-leader Comedy Zone. Founded in Charlotte, NC,

Comedy Zone is celebrating 30 years in business and now operates more than 60 venues across the

country. Founder Brian Hefron is on the pulse of what’s hot in standup.

“Just because you’ve been in a movie or television show doesn’t mean you’re more talented, it

just means that your career has taken a different turn. We’re not bringing up-and- comers to AMP—these

are some of the best, most sought after comedians in the country,” said Hefron. “We’re putting our name on it.”

with Dave Chappelle, Seth Meyers, Tim Hawkins, Anjelah Johnson, and more. The son of a pastor,

growing up in the south. The good ol’ southern boy is paired with “Bad Girl Next Door” Blayr Nias,

whose humor blends Northern aggression and Southern charm. Nias has opened for Rachel Feinstein and

Jim Norton, and is the creator of The Almost Famous Comedy Show at The Charlotte Comedy Zone,

Show” and “CBS This Morning” to “Good Morning America.” Armstrong is also a regular guest and
